Memorable Moments with My Cat: Growth and Care

In the days of getting along with my cat, Dongfeng, there have been many unforgettable moments. These moments have witnessed the gradual deepening of the affection between us and also recorded my process of changing from being unfamiliar with it to cherishing it extremely.

I still remember March 14, 2018, a day that left a deep impression on me, because on this day, I was scratched by Dongfeng for the first time. That day, I found that there seemed to be something wrong with its foot. Out of concern, I wanted to take a closer look at what was going on. But unexpectedly, this little cat was so stubborn. As soon as I picked it up, it struggled desperately to break free, and as a result, it accidentally left two scratches on my neck. This was the first time in my life that I was scratched, and I was really scared at that time. For a moment, I probably had a second of resentment towards it. But soon, this resentment was replaced by worry, and I urgently went to get a rabies vaccine. What’s more, the doctor told me that because the wound was on my neck, I also needed to get an injection of hemoglobin. The dose of that medicine was quite a lot, and it was divided into five syringes, all injected into my neck. Despite this “small twist”, my love for Dongfeng didn’t decrease at all. After all, it didn’t do it on purpose.

On March 16, 2018, Dongfeng showed its naughty side again. It played on my mother’s table, and its lively and cute appearance made me want to record it. Watching it sniffing and looking around curiously on the table, my heart was filled with joy, feeling that it added a lot of fun to our life.

By March 20, 2018, I began to worry about Dongfeng’s health again. Its tear stains were a bit serious. Although I knew that many light – colored cats would have tear stains, I still made up my mind to clean them carefully for it, making its big eyes clean. At that time, Dongfeng weighed less than 400 grams, and I could easily lift it with one hand. Perhaps it was precisely because it was so weak that I was always extremely nervous and worried about it.

That day, Dongfeng looked listless and sneezed from time to time. I became very nervous at once, because I had learned on Baidu that kittens are very likely to have stress reactions and get feline distemper when they come to a new home. So, I took it very seriously. Despite the rain outside, I decided to take it for an examination. Worrying that using the airline kennel would make it a bit cold, I put it in my own schoolbag and took it to a pet hospital near the school. After the doctor examined it, he said that it just had a bit of a cold, and I relaxed a little. But after a while, the doctor told me that its ear mites were very serious and showed me its ears. I then realized that its ears were blocked by black things, and it would cost a hundred yuan to clean them once. The doctor knew that I had just brought it home for a few days and suggested that I ask the cattery owner. So, I quickly contacted the cattery owner and made an appointment to take Dongfeng to clean its ears the next day.

The next day, when we arrived at the cattery, the owner also didn’t expect that there would be so many ear mites in Dongfeng’s ears. The owner used a cotton swab dipped in warm water to clean it little by little. Several big pieces of black things were cleaned out, and the whole process lasted for more than half an hour. On the way home, I bought a warmer backpack for Dongfeng, as well as Ear Fulin and a spray for treating ringworm. Since then, Dongfeng began its “cat life” with a headgear.

In these days of getting along with Dongfeng, although there have been worries and tiredness, there is more joy and warmth that it brings to me. Every cute moment of it and every small health issue make me more deeply understand the responsibility and happiness of being a cat owner. I look forward to spending more wonderful times with Dongfeng in the future, witnessing its healthy and happy growth, and continuing to write our story.
