In my warm little world, there live a group of cats full of unique personalities. Among them, Li Xiaoyin, a female British Shorthair Silver Shaded, is really a “coquettish cat”. It has a strong desire for hugs. Whenever it is not being held, it will stretch out its little paws and try hard to reach your arm. Its pitiful look seems to be saying, “Hug me quickly!” At home, if you want to play games with it, you have to hold it. If you don’t want to hold it, it will perform the “bone – shrinking skill”, curling up on the chair. As long as there is a little gap, it will quickly drill up and insist on being held in your arms. Li Xiaoyin also has a habit that makes people angry and funny at the same time. It always regards my clothes as a cat scratching board and grinds its claws on them from time to time. It loves to act coquettishly, and its charming appearance can easily melt your heart. In addition, Li Xiaoyin has a special preference for yogurt. Every time it sees yogurt, it will excitedly come around, looking at it eagerly, and will not give up until it tastes a bite. What’s more interesting is that it also likes to turn its butt towards people. This strange behavior often makes me laugh and cry.
Maomao, a male British Longhair Silver Shaded, has a completely different personality from Li Xiaoyin. Maomao especially likes to be scratched. Whenever you gently scratch it, it will comfortably squint its eyes and make a pleasant purring sound in its throat. However, it extremely hates being held. Every time you try to hold it, it is like a slippery loach and you simply can’t hold it. I found that whether it is a rural long – haired cat or a long – haired cat of a breed like Maomao, they all seem not to like being held very much. Maybe it’s because their long hair makes them feel uncomfortable when being held. Maomao is a real “foodie”. Most of the time, it is enjoying delicious food. As long as there is food, it will become extremely happy. When being stroked, it will roll on the ground comfortably like a puppy, turning its belly out, showing a look of trust. Although Maomao’s long hair often gets soiled with feces when it defecates, which requires me to take extra care of it, this has not reduced my love for it at all.
Recently, there are new members in the family – four lovely kittens. Although they are still young, they have already shown their own unique personalities. Some kittens are extremely greedy. As long as they see food, they will rush over regardless and gobble it up; some are very timid, and the slightest movement will scare them into hiding; there is also a kitten that especially likes to cause trouble and always likes to fight with other little friends, as if it has inexhaustible energy; while one kitten has a special preference for watching the excitement. Whenever there is any movement at home, it will quickly run over, open its big eyes, and watch curiously.
Overall, these British Shorthair cats that I brought back from the cattery, because the cattery has done a good job in socialization, basically none of them have a particularly bad personality. They have relatively unified characteristics. For example, they don’t like to meow. No matter what the surrounding environment is, they can remain relatively quiet. Their tolerance is also very high. Whether being stroked or occasionally “tortured”, they will not get angry easily. They also especially like to lick people and rub against people, expressing their love and dependence on their owners in this way. Moreover, for bathing, which many cats resist, they are not particularly resistant. Although they will show some discomfort when taking a bath, out of trust in humans, they will not resist particularly strongly.
These cats have brought endless joy and warmth to my life. Their distinct personalities make every day full of surprises and fun. I look forward to spending more wonderful times with them, witnessing their growth, and also hope that every cat – lover can soon have their own lovely cat and experience this unique happiness.
