Guaiguai: From a Rescue Cat to a Cherished Companion

Guaiguai: From a Rescue Cat to a Cherished Companion

In my life, there is an extremely precious member named Guaiguai. The arrival of Guaiguai has added endless warmth and color to my life, and its story is a legend about love and redemption.

Guaiguai comes from a stray – cat rescue station. I work as a volunteer at this rescue station and get along with those lovely and pitiful cats every day. In the winter of 2018, Guaiguai was taken to the cat shed by the aunt at the rescue station. At that time, it had suffered inhumane abuse. There were two big holes burned on its back, and it was severely malnourished, looking extremely weak and heartbreaking. However, under the careful care of the aunt, after about half a year, Guaiguai miraculously recovered. It gradually became well – behaved, cute, and extremely obedient. Although I occasionally joked that it might not be very intelligent, this didn’t affect its status in everyone’s heart at all. Moreover, it was very clingy and always liked to be around people, seeking warmth and love. Because of this, every volunteer who went to the cat shed doted on it, and many adopters also took a fancy to Guaiguai and wanted to take it home to give it a warm home.

However, the aunt knew very well the hardships Guaiguai had suffered. She was worried that Guaiguai would be hurt again, so she was extremely cautious about Guaiguai’s adoption. At that time, I was about to graduate from my doctorate and would soon have my own independent living place. After learning about my situation, the aunt proposed to entrust Guaiguai to me. She said that she would be very relieved to see me take care of Guaiguai. Actually, before this, I had reserved two white chubby cats in the cat shed, one with long hair and the other with short hair. I thought that if they were not adopted by the time I graduated, I would take them home. Unexpectedly, the aunt decided to give Guaiguai to me in the middle. I also liked Guaiguai very much. Thinking that one more cat for company wouldn’t hurt, I readily agreed to take all three of them home after I graduated and had my own living place. During this waiting period, the aunt rejected about a dozen adopters who took a fancy to Guaiguai and passed our adoption review, and introduced them to other equally lovely cats in the cat shed that were eager to be adopted.

Looking at the shocking photos of the wounds on Guaiguai’s back when it first arrived at the cat shed, my heart was filled with anger and distress. Who on earth was so cruel to such an affectionate little cat? Fortunately, under the care of the aunt at the rescue station, Guaiguai gradually got out of the pain and shone with the glory of life again.

When I finally graduated, I happily took Guaiguai and the other two kittens home. Guaiguai quickly adapted to the new environment. It always follows me around the house. Wherever I go, it follows. It seems that I am its whole world. When it’s time to sleep at night, it will jump onto the bed, find a comfortable position, curl up beside my pillow, and purr softly, accompanying me to sleep.

During the days of getting along with Guaiguai, I deeply felt its love for life and its dependence on people. It will gently rub its head against my leg, acting coquettishly; when I am tired, it will quietly lie at my feet, giving me silent company. Although it may not be as smart and clever as other cats, its innocence and kindness make me cherish it even more.

Guaiguai’s experience makes me understand that every stray cat has its own story. They have all experienced hardships, but as long as we give them love and care, they can embrace life again. And I am extremely fortunate to be the guardian in Guaiguai’s life, accompanying it every day in the future and witnessing every happy moment of it. I believe that under my care, Guaiguai’s life will be full of sunshine, and it will continue to light up my life with its warmth and love.
