My silver shaded British Shorthair, Niannian, is really a kitten full of personality and stories. From the moment it came into my home, it has brought countless joys and little troubles to my life.
I still remember when I first brought Niannian home, the people at the cattery repeatedly told me not to forcefully hold the cat and to let it adapt to the new environment first. But this little guy has an amazing ability to adapt. In about two hours, it completely got rid of the initial restraint and started to stick to me shamelessly. It wanted to be by my side no matter what I was doing, and it even did something as private as licking its testicles next to me, which made me laugh and feel embarrassed at the same time.
In the first few days after it came home, Niannian was extremely well-behaved, and I secretly thought that I had a worry-free cat. However, after a few days, it couldn’t pretend anymore and revealed its naughty nature. As soon as I started watching a video, it would lie in front of the tablet to block me. When I was about to turn on the TV, it would lie beside me to cause trouble, as if it knew it couldn’t block the TV but still wanted to show its presence. When I let it out, I almost never managed to take a clear picture of it. It especially liked to secretly hide under the sofa or the bed, waiting for us to find it, just like playing an exciting game of hide-and-seek. Its favorite activity was running around everywhere, and its favorite toy turned out to be an ordinary paper ball, a simple preference that made me laugh.
When Niannian was in the cage, it became extremely well-behaved again. But I knew that it must be pretending, just to trick me into letting it out to run around. It also has many unique sleeping skills, and its various strange sleeping postures often make me want to take pictures to record them. As a novice cat owner, I didn’t know much about many things related to cats. Whenever Niannian was a bit abnormal, I would worry that it was sick. That kind of nervousness and concern can only be understood by those who have raised pets.
Later, many netizens suggested that I shouldn’t keep Niannian in the cage. I really appreciate everyone’s concern for Niannian. In fact, there are reasons for keeping it in the cage. It has ear mites and often hides under the sofa and the bed. The doctor suggested isolation for better treatment and care. Also, every time someone opened the door, it would rush out. It has run out no less than three times, and we searched the whole corridor for it, almost losing it. There were also more than ten times when we caught it at the door in time. For its safety, I would put it in the cage every time before going out. However, except for these special situations, I let it roam freely at other times.
There are many more interesting daily stories about Niannian. When it saw the rain for the first time, its surprised expression seemed to be saying, “My goodness, what on earth is this?” When my boyfriend was using the toilet, it didn’t mind the smell and just lay at the door waiting. Occasionally, it would lie obediently on my lap and accompany me while I was reading, and that warm scene made me feel very happy. But it also has moments that make me feel helpless. For example, it has developed a new “skill” – gnawing on the computer. I really don’t know why it became interested in the computer. Once, I was studying in the evening and didn’t play with it, so it lay beside me and “threatened” me. Its little eyes were really a bit scary.
Niannian’s expressions and actions are also very interesting sometimes. Its “sneaky” look makes people burst into laughter. Recently, it especially likes to lie on the cage. I don’t know if it doesn’t feel the discomfort of being pressed against the bars. Although Niannian can be naughty sometimes and brings me a lot of trouble, its cuteness and companionship have made my life rich and colorful. I hope that when I earn more money in the future, I can buy it a bigger and more comfortable cage so that it can better experience the happiness of its cat life. I also hope to always accompany it and witness more of its growth moments.
