I decided to take my adorable cat, KGB, out for a stroll.
I’ve never been quite sure whether it’s an American Shorthair or a British Shorthair with a silver shaded coat. It should be a British Shorthair, right? The place where I live is a small city, and most of the cats here are from backyard breeders. KGB was secretly brought home by my mom when I was on a trip. She just took one more look at its big face and knew it was the one. As it turns out, for any pet, it will be attached to the person who brings it home.
In our family, we have a gray-yellow combination, the golden cat CIA and the adorable silver cat KGB.
Smart! Our KGB is really smart. This cat of mine is naturally good at acting coquettish, reading people’s expressions and meowing in a way that seems like it’s calling people. Now it’s two years old. Lured by canned food, it has learned to open windows, give kisses, and even “play” with mobile phones. When it has nothing else to do, it will squat on the toilet lid and study the flushing system. At night, it likes to open the window and go outside to catch moths. Following the principle of “whoever pollutes should clean up”, it also takes care of the flies it lets in. Every time, my mom and I have to keep a close eye on it to prevent it from eating them. If KGB were a man, it would definitely be the pillar of the family!

Fierce! When KGB first came to our home, it was less than two months old, while the older cat was already over a year old. When they fought, KGB was bitten by the older cat and got a black mark on its eyebrow. Now, its fighting ability is so strong that it has not only bitten the older cat’s eyebrow bald but also provokes it from time to time. It often chases after the older cat and attacks it, especially in the early morning and at night when the lights are turned off and we are going to sleep. The way its little paws run is like thousands of horses galloping! These two creatures, each weighing over ten pounds, especially like to fight on top of us. One morning at five o’clock, it stepped on exactly the right place on me and almost made me pee.
The Battlefield
High Emotional Quotient! Our KGB really has a high emotional quotient. Every morning when I wake up, as long as there is any movement in the small room and it hears it, it will immediately run over and open its mouth wide to say “ah~” as a greeting. Sometimes it sweeps my calf with its tail, and sometimes it rubs its face against my hand for a long time. After saying hello, it goes back to doing its own thing. Both of them love canned food. When the canned food is poured out, the older cat will directly start eating, while KGB will always sweep us with its tail first before eating. And it is extremely gentle. It never bites people. When it’s really impatient, it just licks.
Versatile. My mom plays the guzheng. Sometimes she just leaves it there without covering it with a cloth. Once I was home alone and was browsing Zhihu until after one o’clock at night. At one o’clock in the silent and dark early morning, I heard one of the strings of the guzheng make a clear “dēng~~~” sound, and the lingering sound filled the room. At that moment, my scalp tingled. The same thing happened with the piano. One night, my mom was home alone. After playing the piano, she didn’t cover it. She went to bed earlier, at eleven o’clock. When she was half asleep, someone seemed to be playing the piano. My mom’s scalp also tingled.
KGB has many other unique skills, such as eating soap, pretending to be injured, and “talking” to people… It could always curl its tongue into a small hook, but after a miraculous surgery, we never saw that again.
Although the golden cat and the silver cat in our family have different hair textures, both of them feel really good to touch. They are so enjoyable to pet! Since we got them, our whole family has been very happy every day. Besides having different personalities, as long as these cats get along well with us, each of them is like a sweet and caring little companion. We should love them well and be responsible family members.
