This should be a cat that’s both a foodie and a sweetheart.
My cat, Piggy (a boy), was bought from a friend of a colleague. His two female cats had given birth one after the other, and there were too many kittens. I happened to want a British Shorthair Blue and White, so this was the beginning of our fate.
❤ This is Piggy as a kitten at his previous owner’s home, nicknamed “Chubby” (at this moment, I seem to understand something).
There’s a little side story here. Originally, my colleague’s friend had reserved the kitten marked with a yellow dot for me. But on the way, the kitten got too nervous, broke free, and ran into the parking lot. For a while, it couldn’t be found (don’t worry, it was eventually found and didn’t become a stray cat—thank goodness!!). In the end, my boyfriend and I got our little angel.
On his first day at home, Piggy was well-behaved, not too timid but not hiding either. He didn’t meow much, and when he slept, his eyes wouldn’t fully close. This was my first impression of Piggy.
On the third or fourth day, after he had settled in and was eating well, we took him to the vet for a check-up and to get vaccinated. The vet discovered that the little guy had ear mites and was shocked at how dirty his ears were.
As first-time cat owners, we thought it was a life-threatening condition. While the vet prescribed medication, my boyfriend and I asked all sorts of questions, learning how to treat it and how to clean a cat’s ears.
(His first Elizabethan collar was too big, so I cut it down and spent some time smoothing the edges to avoid sharpness.)
Now, whenever I see any cat, I instinctively check if their ears are dirty… I’ve also learned how to trim nails, brush teeth, and clean eye and nose gunk—a series of three-star skills.
The little guy is quite sturdy. Aside from a minor cold and ear mites when he first arrived, he’s been perfectly healthy after getting his vaccines.
After more than three months of day-and-night companionship and deep bonding, Piggy’s personality has really come through—he has a bit of a temper and will bite when he’s unhappy; he doesn’t like being held; he loves fish; he’s obsessed with feathers; he bites anything he likes first; and if it looks like food and he can carry it, he’ll run off with it…
Although biting isn’t great, my boyfriend and I both think Piggy is adorable! He’s so full of personality!
Having Piggy in our lives is truly a blessing!! Waking up in the morning to find a little cutie lying next to you is just the best feeling ever!
Remember, adopting a cat requires careful thought. Make sure you’ve “thought it through” and “prepared well,” and then take care of them for their entire life!!!
