Simba: My Journey with a Mischievous and Adorable British Shorthair

Simba: My Journey with a Mischievous and Adorable British Shorthair

Maybe there’s something about my home, but by the second day, he turned into this little troublemaker! Despite that, he’s full of energy, not shy at all, and we basically skipped the adjustment period—he started following me around right away!

On the very first day, he felt safe enough to nap on me. That alone made me decide he was the one!

He could sleep peacefully on my lap right from the start.

Later, we went to the vet for blood tests, stool samples, shots, medication, and ear mite treatment… The ear mite medicine made his fur greasy and dirty, but the vet said he was too young and had a cold, so no baths! What? I had to endure the mess.

When filling out the medical form, I hadn’t decided on a name yet, so I quickly wrote “Ba Zi” because he has a perfect blue-and-white eight pattern on his face!

Take a close look at the photo below—he used to have a little eyebrow marking… Now, it’s just a single whisker left.

Even with all his illnesses and wearing the cone of shame, he didn’t have a care in the world and could still sleep on his back! Before his bath, my love for him was somewhat restrained. I was even giving him a look of disgust, but he still climbed onto me to sleep!

Ugh, I could only quietly move him to his bed when he fell asleep. If he woke up while being moved, he’d meow and demand to be held again!

Finally, after his cold and other issues were resolved, I could give him a proper bath!

After his bath, he climbed onto the bed and watched Nine Lives with me! It was at this point that I officially accepted Simba into my heart (thanks to my Virgo perfectionism).

After much thought, I decided to name him Simba!

First, because he was small and sickly, and I hoped he’d grow strong and wise like Simba, the Lion King.

Second, The Lion King was my favorite childhood movie—it’s a tribute.

Third, I’ve always had a soft spot for Leos, and the name Simba fits all three reasons!

From then on, he unlocked all sorts of sleeping positions!

Simba has grown longer but hasn’t gained much weight—he’s still as slim as a willow branch (I wish we could swap bodies! So jealous!).

Sometimes he’s a serene little prince…~~~

Other times, he’s a hyperactive gremlin…~~~ The contrast is real.

When he’s in crazy mode, even ten cameras couldn’t capture his speed. The whole house is his savannah! Then suddenly, he’ll gaze into the distance with deep, thoughtful eyes.

①②③ Simba thinks anything I eat that he doesn’t like should be buried… Let’s talk—what’s your problem?

One eye still has tear stains. Let’s play hide-and-seek!

Simba: “I’m not skinny; I just haven’t squeezed myself into a ball yet!”

Simba: “I smell treats behind me!”

Recently, Simba has developed a new bad habit—he kneads and suckles on the blanket like he’s looking for milk, completely focused. I’ve also noticed that during this, his little “thing” becomes red and peeks out. Is this normal? I need advice!

I just finished giving Simba his medicine. Every dose is a battle! But after taking it, he instantly becomes gentle and collapses next to me. Simba and I are inseparable—no matter how much we fight or how much I tease him, he never holds a grudge and forgets instantly. Then again, I don’t hold grudges when he destroys the house either!

Right now, he’s sleeping carefree again. Simba is only a little over three months old, and we have a long life ahead of us. I’m looking forward to him growing into a chubby, big-faced furball!

Now, I have to wake him up for his next dose of medicine… (To be continued…)
