Cat Fur —— The Paramount Factor Concerning the Cat – Petting Experience
The fur of British Shorthair cats is of great importance. In the CFA’s British Shorthair scoring standards, the fur and its color account for 35 points, the body accounts for 35 points, while the head and eye colors together only account for 30 points. The ideal length of the cat’s fur is that when pinched between two fingers (male fingers), it just slightly protrudes. The fur should be thick, dense, and the texture of the cat should be neither too hard nor too soft. You can touch a blanket, and it’s about that kind of feeling. If the cat’s fur is too long or too sparse, it is unqualified. Light and medium – colored fur are acceptable, while too dark – colored fur is unqualified. As for those sellers who beautify the cat’s fur to the point of making it almost invisible in photos… well, I don’t think I need to say more.
There are cases of hair loss, and genetics play a big role. Secondly, British Shorthairs usually experience molting around 1 year old and around 3 years old. It is normal to shed downy hair. In addition, continuous high – temperature weather can also cause hair loss.

British Shorthairs themselves need 3 – 5 years to fully grow into a perfect state. Pure – blood traditional British Shorthairs will only become more and more beautiful as they grow. Although cross – bred cats may look good when they are young, no one knows what they will look like later. Of course, just having a good bloodline is useless. Adequate nutrition is also necessary to raise them well. It’s said that 70% depends on bloodline and 30% on nurturing. (Actually, the faces of British Shorthairs under 3 months old are all chubby. The face shape will change and show differences after 3 months. Besides the traditional type, there is also the Australian – blood – line British Shorthair. The Australian – blood – line belongs to the sweet – looking type, which is more in line with the aesthetics of Asians. The characteristic is that they look good from childhood to adulthood without an awkward stage. The drawback is that their body size is relatively small, which is a big disadvantage in competitions, considering that the body shape alone accounts for 35 points!)
Generally, it is the downy hair that is shed. If there is large – scale shedding of whole hairs, the most likely reasons are fleas on the body or insufficient nutrition.
The above are just the most basic points in appearance evaluation. To reach a certain level in appearance evaluation requires a lot of experience accumulation, and there is no shortcut.
In addition, why have Blue cats remained popular for so long? Because the fur of Blue cats is the best among British Shorthairs. In CFA and WCF British Shorthair competitions, British Shorthairs are basically all pure blue.
The scoring proportion of fur is really too high.
Other colors can’t compare with pure blue in terms of fur density and texture.
