Colors of British Shorthair Cats

White

Eye color: deep sapphire blue, golden, or copper red. Heterochromia (one blue and one orange eye), with a sapphire blue eye and a golden eye, and the colors are of equal intensity. Nose leather and paw pads: pink.

Black

Black all the way to the roots, without rust spots or white hairs. Nose color: black. Paw pads: black or brown. Eye color: golden or copper without any trace of green.

Blue

Light to medium blue, with lighter shades being preferred. For the color, a medium shade is more acceptable than an unsound shade. Lighter shades are favored. There should be no tabby markings or white anywhere. Nose leather and paw pads: blue. Eye color: golden or copper.

Red

A deep and bright red, with color gradation towards the roots. There should be no white anywhere. Nose leather and paw pads: brick red. Eye color: golden or copper. Disqualification: heavy tabby markings.

Cream

Cream color, with lighter tones being preferred, having color gradation towards the roots. There is no white area. Nose and paw pads: pink. Eye color: golden or copper. Unqualified: tabby color.

Smoke

A genetically silver, non – agouti tabby variety of British Shorthair. The face coat can be any recognized solid color, light color, or blue cream color. The undercoat is white or pale silver, showing the maximum contrast. Nose leather and paw pads: consistent with the coat color. Eye color: golden or copper.

Dark Silver

A genetically silver variety of British Shorthair, where the color is restricted to the tips of the hairs. The tipping and the base color are so pale that they appear white. The coat on the back, sides, head, ears, and tail should have a tipping color. The tipping should be evenly distributed, with the evenness of distribution being emphasized rather than the degree of tipping. Severely tipped cats should not be penalized as long as the tips are even and there are no tabby markings; in fact, they are preferred over those with less distinct tips. It is almost white. The legs should show tipping, which will decrease towards the paws but should be as even as possible. The chin, stomach, chest, and tail should be as pale as possible. The tipping can be any recognized solid, tortoiseshell, or blue cream color. Nose leather and paw pads: corresponding to the coat color. A mixture of pink and/or brick red is present in tortoiseshell and blue cream. Eye color: golden or copper, except for shaded silver, which should have only green or blue – green eyes.

Shaded Golden

A non – silver version of the shaded/tipped British Shorthair. Its undercoat is a rich warm cream color with black/dark brown tipping. The coat on the back, sides, head, ears, and tail should have a tipping color. The tipping should be evenly distributed, with the evenness of distribution being more important than the degree of tipping. The legs should show tipping, which will decrease towards the paws but should be as even as possible. The chin, stomach, chest, and tail are pale apricot in color. Nose leather: brick red can be outlined in black/brown. Paw pads: black/dark brown. Eye color: green or blue – green.
