The Story of Adopting Blu, Our British Shorthair Blue Cat

We officially brought our cat Blu home in the middle to late July this year. When I first saw the photo posted by the original owner, he was only three weeks old. Together with a few other kittens, they had just started to walk. I could hold them all in my two small hands. He had two siblings, but they were already reserved when they were only three weeks old. (Those people who reserved the kittens must have been very decisive.) Of course, it was probably because of the coat colors. One of the other two kittens was blue and white, and the other was beige. They were both very beautiful.

The remaining Blu was blue, the most typical British Shorthair blue cat. The owner had a total of three cats, two females and one male. Blu’s mother was a blue cat, and his father was unknown. The other female cat was beige, and the male cat was silver – white with a few small stripes. They also had a litter of three kittens, one week younger than Blu, and they were all blue. (By the way, how random the coat colors are!) So we were lucky enough to choose one from four blue kittens. But since we wanted a male, our choices were narrowed down to Blu and another little brother. However, at two to three weeks old, it was really hard to tell the difference. So after taking a few photos of Blu, we agreed to come back two weeks later to make a choice and pay the deposit. By the way, when I called “Come here, come here” to three – week – old Blu, he actually walked towards me. Hehe.

The change in two weeks was really significant. By then, Blu could walk steadily and showed his true nature during our second visit. First of all, I should mention that the owner took very good care of the cats and a big dog that was probably heavier than me. You could tell at a glance. The beige female cat I mentioned earlier was said to come with a certificate and was brought all the way from Munich in southern Germany, more than 500 kilometers away, at a cost of 750 euros. We also petted the mother cats, and their fur felt so soft.

They all looked so big. This time, we also saw a photo of Blu’s biological father. Like his mother, he was a big blue cat. Blu was the only one that inherited the blue color from his parents. But this little guy showed his true nature when he was five weeks old. When we went to see him this time, he only stayed in my hands for a short while and then wanted to go and play.

He kept looking around and exploring everywhere. In the middle, he even got under the sofa and refused to come out until his mother came and led him out. But soon he ran away again and even jumped a few times. In contrast, the other little brother, being one week younger, hadn’t mastered the skill of walking on the smooth floor yet, so we held him for a longer time. But this little brother was really good at walking backwards. We watched as he intended to walk forward but ended up backing up instead. It was so funny. So, faced with these two different little guys, although I wanted Blu, I really hesitated.
