Finally, I’ll show you some breeding – grade British Shorthair blue cats from my cattery as a reference.
The head is of utmost importance when an ordinary person selects a cat. Here is a detailed explanation.
Just remember: round face, round muzzle, round ears, and round chin, but the top of the head should not be round.
Muzzle: In unqualified cases, it’s not round enough.
Head: In unqualified cases, the outline is not round enough.
Nose: In unqualified cases.
Standard ear line.
Unqualified ears.
Cat fur – the most important factor related to the experience of petting a cat.
The fur of British Shorthairs is very important. In the CFA’s scoring standard for British Shorthairs, the fur and its color account for 35 points, the body accounts for 35 points, while the head and the color of the eyes together only account for 30 points. The ideal length of the cat’s fur is that when pinched with two fingers (male fingers), it just sticks out a bit. The fur should be thick and dense.

The texture of the fur should neither be too hard nor too soft. You can touch a blanket, and it should feel about the same. If the fur is too long or too sparse, it is unqualified. Both light – colored and medium – colored fur are acceptable, but overly dark fur is unqualified. As for those sellers whose cats’ fur is so beautified in photos that it’s hardly visible… Well, I don’t think I need to say more.
Shedding is largely due to bloodline reasons. Secondly, British Shorthairs usually shed their fur when they are about 1 year old and 3 years old. It’s normal for them to shed their under – fur. In addition, continuous high – temperature weather can also cause shedding.
British Shorthairs themselves need 3 – 5 years to fully grow into their perfect state. Pure – blooded traditional British Shorthairs will only become more and more beautiful as they grow older. While cross – bred cats may look good when they are young, no one knows how they will turn out later. Of course, having good bloodline alone is not enough.
Adequate nutrition is also necessary for good growth. It’s said that bloodline accounts for 70% and rearing accounts for 30% (Actually, British Shorthairs under 3 months old all have chubby faces. The difference in facial shape will only become apparent after 3 months). Besides the traditional type, there is also the Australian – bloodline British Shorthair. The Australian – bloodline belongs to the sweet – looking type, which is more in line with Asian aesthetics. Its characteristic is that it looks good from childhood to adulthood without an awkward stage. The drawback is that its body size is relatively small, which is a big disadvantage in cat shows, as body size alone accounts for 35 points!
Normally, British Shorthairs shed their under – fur. If there is large – scale shedding of whole hairs, the most likely reasons are fleas on the body or insufficient nutrition.
The above are just the most basic points in judging a cat’s appearance. To reach a certain level in appearance judgment requires a large amount of experience accumulation. There is no shortcut.
You may think they are just ordinary?
What if I tell you that the two cats above are both 6 – month – old female cats?
It’s already rare for female cats to have such a face, not to mention 6 – month – old ones…
The prices of the two cats above are both over 25,000 yuan. One is our breeding queen, and the other has been sold.
