There are two cats (a British Shorthair Blue Cat and an American Shorthair with White) and a dog (a Labrador Retriever) in my family. When it comes to the degree of being affectionate, it must be Labrador Retriever > American Shorthair > British Shorthair Blue Cat. However, as a well – known breed among dogs for being affectionate and having high obedience, let’s not talk about the Labrador Retriever.
Just talking about the British Shorthair and the American Shorthair, these two breeds of cats are probably the most commonly raised breeds in China currently. Both of my cats were purchased from regular catteries, so they are mentally healthy and have received relatively good socialization training. In terms of personality, the British Shorthair is more straightforward and simple (not just my cat. All the other British Shorthairs I’ve seen have nothing to do with words like “nimble, scheming, clever…”. Words used to describe them are more like “dull and cute”, probably related to their round appearance.

As for the blue cat, due to its fur color, its appearance doesn’t look as sweet as other – colored British Shorthairs. The blue – gray fur of the blue cat (which is often very thick), the fact that British Shorthairs generally don’t like to exercise (they are just like a “lump”), and their orange eyes don’t naturally have that “galaxy in the eyes” look. So, such an appearance can also make people think they may not be affectionate.
But talking about my blue cat, its personality is sensitive. It’s the third pet I’ve raised. The first one is a Labrador Retriever, and the second one is an American Shorthair with White. Its “lack of affection” really made it a bit hard for me, who has been raising pets for ten years, to accept. It’s sensitive and timid. Most of the time, when there are strangers or people it doesn’t like (such as the naughty kids in my family) around, it hides. Even though its 15 – jin obese body has difficulty squeezing under the sofa, it never comes out to greet when there is a noise at the door, and it doesn’t even bother to observe secretly. So, it’s not easy to see it in my house.
But does this mean it’s not affectionate? Not necessarily. It has its own way. When you call its name, it will purr from a distance. Sometimes, when it makes eye contact with me, it starts purring from a distance. But as soon as you reach out to pet it, it immediately runs away. However, if you catch it and hold it in your arms, it won’t resist no matter how you pet it and never shows its claws. When it’s hungry, it will also come to beg for food, but it will definitely meow behind the “big brother” American Shorthair. It looks so cute.
But when it comes to whether it’s affectionate, it depends on who you compare it with, right~
