A Comparison between British Shorthair Blue Cats and Ragdolls: Traits, Care and Cost

A Comparison between British Shorthair Blue Cats and Ragdolls: Traits, Care and Cost

As a senior cat lover, a blue cat was my first pet cat, which opened the door to my cat – loving life. But now I run a Ragdoll cattery. (Even though I have a Ragdoll cattery, I haven’t abandoned my beloved big blue cat. After being neutered, it enjoys a comfortable life at home.)

Personality (talking about the general situation, not individual cases):

If you like an affectionate and clingy cat, choose a Ragdoll. If you prefer a relatively independent one, choose a blue cat.

Ragdolls are more clingy. They got their name because of their good temperaments. Not only the Ragdolls I breed, but also those I pet at my friends’ houses are very affectionate, clingy, and bold. They are not afraid of strangers and won’t hide under the bed when strangers come. The feedback from cat owners is that they will purr and knead as soon as they are touched, and they are very clingy.

Compared with Ragdolls, blue cats are a bit more timid, more lazy and independent. They are affectionate but not as clingy. In the world of blue cats, eating and sleeping are more important. Of course, they will also knead and purr, which is more common in their kitten stage. After reaching adulthood, my blue cat’s state is to eat, sleep, and eat again. In a 24 – hour day, the time it spends running around and playing instead of lying down is less than 2 hours.

The common states of my blue cat and Ragdolls are that the blue cat sleeps at the foot of the bed or beside my pillow, while the Ragdolls stick to me, kneading and purring.

Hair – shedding:

There are many Ragdolls at home and only one blue cat. I don’t really know how to describe the hair – shedding situation. Anyway, when I use a lint – roller on the bed, the hair is all from the blue cat.

Hahaha, just kidding. Seriously, both definitely shed hair. My Ragdolls are of the traditional type with silky fur. If well – cared for, they don’t shed much. The short hair of blue cats floats in the air when they shed, while the long hair of Ragdolls rolls on the ground in clusters.

Anyway, I’m used to it. Every day, I use a vacuum cleaner, a dust – mite remover, mop the floor, and use a lint – roller without fail.

Here’s a picture of a cute little one.

Care:

Personally, I don’t think it’s fair to say that one breed has a worse stomach. As long as you take good care of them and choose a regular cattery (not those fake ones), their stomachs won’t be worse than other cats’.

The one – size – fits – all statement that blue cats are tough and Ragdolls are difficult to raise is also wrong. My chubby blue cat is picky. Besides cat food and freeze – dried food, it doesn’t eat canned cat food, cat meals, or raw meaty bones… It really gives me a headache.

In terms of hair, except that Ragdolls are indeed more difficult to bathe, I don’t see any other differences. The traditional – type Ragdolls with silky fur won’t get knotted even if not combed.

Appearance:

If your budget is limited, it is recommended to buy a blue cat. Because once they develop prominent jowls, they are all very cute. You can buy a super – cute chubby blue cat for a few hundred to 1000 yuan. It’s a great starter cat for novice cat owners.

Here’s a picture of it when it was young.

Although the price of Ragdolls has dropped, the risk of getting a disappointing one for a few hundred to 1000 yuan is higher than that of a blue cat. Because Ragdolls don’t develop jowls, and if their structure is not good, they won’t look sweet when they grow up. Ragdolls are known for their fairy – like appearance, while blue cats have a silly and cute look. Currently, many inexpensive Ragdolls have big ears, high noses, and long mouths, and they are not sweet – looking overall.

I suggest those who want to buy a Ragdoll increase their budget a bit. You can get a nice little cutie for 3000 – 6000 yuan.

A little fairy‍♀️

In short, if it were me, as an adult, I don’t make a choice. I want both. So, I have a blue cat and a group of Ragdolls. Hahaha, I love the cuteness of blue cats and the beauty of Ragdolls
