I really beg the cat owners who bought cheap cats below not to brag about buying a cat for only a few hundred yuan. To be honest, it’s really a stroke of luck if you can buy a healthy cat for a few hundred yuan. More often, people buy sick cats. Not to mention others, among two or three of my friends who bought cats, none of them escaped feline distemper, and in the end, their cats died… Please don’t do such a thing. No buying, no harm. Buying something below cost has no guarantees at all… Cat dealers in Northeast China sell a litter of cats for only a few hundred yuan…
I have raised cats myself. Currently, I have six cats. I bought them from proper catteries. One cost more than 20,000 yuan, and one cost more than 10,000 yuan. Then they had a litter, and I sterilized them all, and then took care of the kittens.
Let’s calculate the cost.
For raising kittens, I use the American PetAg KMR powder, about 345g. I can’t remember exactly, and the price is two to three hundred yuan. To raise them until they are three months old, wouldn’t they need eight to ten cans? Let’s assume they ate 10 cans. 10350 = 3500 yuan.
For cat food, I feed natural cat food. I used to feed EVO, now I feed NOW and Weruva Paw Lickin’ Chicken. A bag of cat food costs an average of 450 yuan and is 15 pounds… Not counting other cats, just the adult cats and kittens, two bags of cat food a month are a must… About 2700 yuan.
For cans, I feed Le Petit Prince, MAC’s, and Canagan, all basic staple – food cans, 400g each, priced at about 26 yuan. At least one can is fed every day. 2690 days = 2460 yuan.
Generally, a kitten needs to get 2 shots of vaccine before it is three months old, about 100 yuan per shot. I got them vaccinated at Ruipeng Pet Hospital.
Assuming there are six kittens born, that’s 1200 yuan.
Together with deworming, let’s count it as 200 yuan.
There’s also homemade cat food. Since homemade cat food is relatively cheap, I won’t count its cost. And there are cat litter and cat litter boxes.
These are the basic costs of raising cats. Not counting the money I spent on buying the adult cats, these basic costs add up to 10,000 yuan. Excluding the cost of personal care, I live in Guangzhou, and the rent is about 4500 yuan per month. Just taking care of the cats until they are three months old, that’s 23,500 yuan. If there are 6 cats, the cost per cat is 4000 yuan! Come on!
Even if I don’t make any profit, it should still be 4000 yuan per cat!
Money doesn’t come easily for anyone…
If you buy a cat for a few hundred yuan and it’s cute and healthy, it might really be because the owner is kind – hearted. But if you buy from cat dealers or pet hospitals, most of the cats are sick and malnourished…
So don’t brag about getting good goods at a low price. There might be such cases, but you may not be lucky enough to encounter them…
