My Experience of Choosing and Raising an Adorable British Shorthair

My Experience of Choosing and Raising an Adorable British Shorthair

This guy is really not photogenic. At first, the cattery let us choose through video calls. But I couldn’t make a decision because I thought all the cats looked exactly the same. So I went to the cattery in person. When choosing, the other cats were doing their best to show off, competing with each other in a rather “sneaky” way (?). Then I noticed the one on the bottom layer that was a bit inactive. I picked it up with gloves on.

It felt very obedient and not naughty. After I put it down, it became a bit more active, probably because it saw that I interacted with it. After comparing it with other cats, all the other cats bit and tore at my gloves without exception. Although it didn’t hurt, I knew they would grow up. So I decided to choose this one. The cattery owner gave me a cat – teaser stick, Royal Canin kitten food, a cat carrier, all kinds of small items, and some medications.

The next day after it came back, we quietly put a few pieces of Orijen cat food in its bowl, and now it has switched to this food. When I brought it back, there were no problems at all. Its ears were clean, and there were no skin problems. The cattery provided a 30 – day after – sales service, which made me feel very reassured. I’m kind of digressing.

Actually, the price of British Shorthairs in China has been dropping. With their textured fur, full of a “cool” style (?), mysterious yellow eyes, and not being expensive, who can resist them? More and more people want them, and more and more people are breeding them. Many backyard breeders and cat dealers are selling litters after litters.

The prices vary from 800 to 4000 yuan depending on the appearance. Some cats with not – so – high looks when they were kittens can be adopted with a small “red – envelope” payment. The offspring of cats that participate in cat shows are a bit more expensive. If you find a cat from a regular cattery, it will get sick less often. The cost of treating various diseases later is almost the same as the price of a relatively good cat.

A friend bought a British Shorthair blue cat for 4500 yuan. Since it was a kitten, it had a chubby face and its fur was a bit bristly. I can’t find the video of it when it was young, so I’ll put a similar video found on Douyin here. If there’s any copyright issue, I’ll delete it. This is what his cat looks like when it grows up. Its fur color is just a bit less outstanding, but everything else is really exactly the same. His two – month – old cat looked bigger than my three – month – old cat. And here’s what my cat looked like when it first came back. Its name is Gao Wuhuan.
