The Quirky Traits of My Lively British Shorthair

The Quirky Traits of My Lively British Shorthair

Although all British Shorthairs belong to the same breed, there are still differences in personality and physical qualities.

However, when I think about my British Shorthair suddenly, it seems that there are no major problems. But when I count them one by one, there are quite a few minor issues.

He is way too lively, way too lively, way too lively

I live in a two – story commercial apartment. The stairs from the first floor to the second floor are short but quite steep. After all, he was only a kitten almost three months old at that time. Before I brought him home, I thought he was too small to dare to go up the stairs, and my room should be safe. I was wrong, so wrong!!! On the first night he arrived home, he quickly mastered the skill of going up and down the stairs quickly! And he could run around freely under the bed, doing extreme “running – around – the – house – like – crazy” actions. Now he still rushes around the living room and the rooms from time to time, as if there are some small animals that I can’t see for him to catch. As long as I don’t close his cage at night, well, I won’t be able to sleep all night.

He eats like a pig

At first, I fed him according to the cat – food feeding chart. After he finished eating, he would always meow. I thought he was acting cute, but later I found out that he was just scolding me for not giving him enough food. I feel that his appetite is much larger than that of other kittens of the same age. No matter how much cat food I pour into the bowl, he can always finish it. I even heard him burp, burp, burp… However, I think he is a special case. It is said that other kittens eat in moderation. I don’t know if it’s because he didn’t win the competition with his siblings when he was born and didn’t drink enough breast milk. Otherwise, why does he eat so much and love to eat so much!

He has a sensitive stomach

No matter what he eats, he is prone to diarrhea. The first thing I do when I get up every morning is to check his litter box to see if he has diarrhea. If not, I will cheer. Today’s litter – cleaning will be easy. Now he is eating cat – food made at home, and he only poops once a day, and it’s not diarrhea anymore. As a relieved “mother”, I shed tears. But this should also vary from cat to cat. I saw that there are some answers from other cat – owners whose British Shorthairs are very sturdy. I’m so envious!

He’s not very clingy, but when he is, it’s overwhelming

Before, when he was still small, I would let him out to sleep at night, hoping that he could get more familiar with the house and be more comfortable. But he, who was indifferent to me during the day, actually took the initiative to sleep on the bed and share the pillow with me!!! And he insisted that I pet him. When I got tired of petting him and lay down to sleep on my own, he wouldn’t sleep anymore. He would get up and want to play with me.

And cats have a lot of energy. They basically wake up once every one or two hours. Of course, except when he’s sleeping at night, it’s impossible for him to pay attention to you. Don’t even think about it. When you call his name, he just pretends to be deaf. He plays by himself, playing with his tail, the table corners, cardboard boxes, and so on.

I don’t have the problems of hair – shedding and extremely stinky poop that other cat – owners mentioned. He hardly sheds hair. I comb him once a day, but I can’t comb out much hair, just a little bit. This makes me give up my little hope of making a cat – hair felt QAQ

Currently, I’m feeding him cat – food made at home, which is pure meat. The cat litter is a 7:3 mixture of tofu cat litter and bentonite cat litter. I clean the litter box once a day. Except when I scoop up all the cat litter during cleaning, I can hardly smell any odor (secretly, it was really stinky when he was eating commercial cat food before).

To sum up, that’s probably all. After all, I’m a bit cowardly to talk about the cat’s faults behind its back.
