I suggest you not breed your cat. It’s a lot of effort with little reward. And don’t breed the blue – and – white either; it’s not much better. A while ago, a close friend of mine wanted to breed her blue British Shorthair and came to consult me. I really did my best to persuade her not to. Especially, if you just have the idea of leaving offspring for your cat, then really don’t breed it.
Firstly, currently, the general price of blue British Shorthairs in the market is low. Although high – end blue British Shorthairs are still expensive, it has to be said that for individual sellers who don’t have hundreds of thousands of yuan worth of breeding cats and stable customer sources, it’s hard to sell your blue British Shorthairs at a good price. I’m in Chengdu. According to my observation of the local market, the price of low – end blue British Shorthairs is only a few hundred yuan each. If you can sell one for more than a thousand yuan, you should be very grateful! Selling one for more than two thousand yuan is basically out of the question; it’s too difficult for individual sellers.

Secondly, just like selling cats, assisting in cat births is a technical job. Do you know that cats may have dystocia? Do you know how to deal with it if there is dystocia? Have you ever seen a kitten die right in front of you? Cat birthing, like human childbirth, is a risky process. Assisting in cat births is a technical job. If you are a little careless, at least a couple of kittens may die, and at worst, the mother cat may die. Are you sure you have the knowledge and the courage to face these difficulties?
Thirdly, do you really see selling cats as just a business? Since I started doing the cat – selling business half a year ago, I’ve met many cat owners who want to breed their cats and then get them sterilized. However, all of them have invested a great deal of emotion in the kittens. After the kittens they have taken care of for several months leave them, most of them are very worried and concerned about whether the kittens are doing well. Every time this happens, I can’t help but think, why did they have to breed a litter in the first place?
Fourthly, it has to be admitted that wealthy buyers are more likely to take good care of cats than those with lower incomes. I really regret not understanding this truth before. If I had known earlier, I would never have sold low – end American Shorthairs. Just one example. In the past half year since I started selling cats, most of the buyers I’ve met feed their cats Solid Gold cat food at best. Only a few feed Orijen. Some who are less well – off feed domestic cat food. At first, I was quite proud because none of my kitten owners have fed extremely low – quality cat food so far. But one day, when I learned that a wealthy cat owner who spent tens of thousands of yuan on a sterilized cat feeds Ziwi Peak canned food and K9 freeze – dried food as the cat’s staple food, to be honest, I was jealous… Do you think there’s a high probability that your blue British Shorthair sold for a thousand or eight hundred yuan will meet such an owner? And wouldn’t you feel heart – broken if one day it meets an owner who feeds it poor – quality cat food?
So, if you want to make money, find the most popular breeds in the current market and breed them quickly. Maybe you can really earn some money. If you just want to leave offspring for your cat, I really think you should get it sterilized! The money you can earn from selling cats is not worth your efforts, and with a low selling price, the buyers may not have enough financial resources to take good care of your kittens.
