Cats: Companions Beyond Price – The Heartwarming Story of My Blue British Shorthair

Raising a cat isn’t about the breed. It’s about companionship. People who talk about cats in terms of value are the ones who trade them for profit. Their starting points for having cats are different, so they discuss value.

I also have a blue British Shorthair. Right now, it’s lying beside my bed, its small body curled up into a ball, sound asleep. It’s extremely cute. I’ve had it for over a year. I didn’t start raising it from its birth. When it came to me, it was already six months old. At that time, I was drinking milk tea, so I named it Milk Tea. Haha, it’s a bit casual.

I still vividly remember that in the autumn of 2019, a friend learned that I had the idea of raising a cat. The next day, he brought it to me, which caught me off – guard. It was so small and so cute. It really melted my heart! Since then, it has become a part of my life (the “Milk Tea” that I can’t drink). Because it was quite young, it was extremely naughty. It really took a lot of my energy. Every day when I got home, I had to clean up the “battlefield” it left behind. Every time it made a mistake and I caught it to scold it, it would look at me with big, innocent eyes, and there seemed to be tears in its eyes (I’m not sure if they were really tears, but it just melted my heart). Later, I gave in and put away everything that could be put away.

Before I knew it, it was January 2020, and I was about to go home for the Spring Festival. I originally planned to be home for 7 days. I left Little Milk Tea in the rental house, with enough food, water, and three litter boxes prepared. I clearly remember that I arrived home on the 20th. In the evening, it was confirmed that the virus could be transmitted between people, and some of my family members came back from Wuhan. Then the city was locked down. Fortunately, a friend stayed at my workplace, so Milk Tea survived. After about two months, as soon as the lockdown was lifted, I rushed back immediately. It was like a poor little child. As soon as it saw me, it clung to me and never left my side, as if it was afraid that I would leave it again.

We can’t judge a cat by its price. Its value to me is companionship.
