The Truth about Being a Bichon Frise: A Pet's Perspective

The Truth about Being a Bichon Frise: A Pet’s Perspective

Hello everyone! I’m a Bichon Frise sister, a cute little one over one year old. I’m the big treasure of my dad and mom, and my brother (a little tabby cat) is the little treasure. We have been living with our dad and mom for over a year. So, I’ve accumulated some experiences and lessons in getting along with humans. I will answer aunts’ questions truthfully below.

As a companion dog, I’m quite clingy and like to interact with my owner. If my owner doesn’t have much time to play with me, I’ll be unhappy and may even get depressed.

As you aunts can see, my white curly fur gets dirty easily. My nickname is “White for One Day”. My dad and mom are afraid that my fur will get knotted, so they comb my hair every day. And to maintain my beauty, I need to visit the groomer every month, which costs a lot in terms of grooming and bathing. If mom bathes me at home, she has to learn the skills of washing, cutting, and blowing. She also needs to prepare nail clippers, files, ear – hair – pulling powder, ear – hair – pulling scissors, a bathing tub, shower gel, hair conditioner, a quick – drying towel, a set of scissors, an electric shaver, a detangling comb, a pin brush, a slicker brush, and a flea comb.

She also needs to show a lot of patience and love. Sometimes I’m afraid of pain and resist ear – hair – pulling and nail – cutting. Mom has to spend a long time soothing me to barely get it done. Also, we Bichon Frises are quite timid. The first time I saw a hair dryer, I was scared. Mom learned from videos how to train me to get desensitized, and then I gradually accepted it.

By the way, many of my friends have tear stains, which are red and really affect our beauty.

I’m small in size and belong to the small – sized dog category. Patellar luxation is what I’m most afraid of because it’s a common disease among small – sized dogs and is not easy to treat. If the symptoms are mild, I need to take chondroitin to maintain my condition. If it’s severe, I need to have surgery. I’m afraid of pain and don’t want to have surgery. Also, the surgery fee is quite expensive. But during the youth of a dog’s life, I just like to run around and jump. I can’t help it.

I was born with a fragile stomach and my skin is also prone to problems. So, my dad and mom strongly restrain themselves from giving me messy foods. But I think a dog’s life is only about ten – plus years, and I should enjoy delicious food. So, whenever they eat something delicious, I just stare at them quietly until they can’t resist and give me a little bit. Then I’m very happy. Skin problems are still very troublesome. My good friend got skin diseases from going to a beauty salon with poor hygiene conditions. It was recurring and took more than half a year to get better. He used very expensive ointments and suffered a lot. Fortunately, my dad and mom love cleanliness, and our home is clean and tidy. So, my brother and I have always been healthy.

Many people say that we small – sized dogs are noisy and like to bark. In fact, we are just protecting our home. As long as there are footsteps of strangers at the door, I will use my momentum to scare them away.

I admit that I’m clingy and often make mistakes. I often get fierce with my brother. My dad and mom also get headaches because they always have to reconcile the conflicts between us. But most of the time, we love each other. After all, when my dad and mom are not at home, my brother is still with me.

Many people say that we Bichon Frises have a low IQ. It really makes me angry! In fact, we are not stupid at all. We just need the right training methods and a lot of rewards (preferably small pieces of dried meat). And learning should start as early as possible. It’s best to start training when we are young. With delicious food and patience, it’s hard not to learn well.

The above are all self – reflections and sincere words from a little Bichon Frise. So, uncles and aunts who want to raise a Bichon Frise must think carefully. Once you have a little Bichon Frise, you can’t abandon it casually. After all, we are all warm – hearted little angels, and being abandoned will make us very sad.
