During the illness, I took her to get intravenous drips every morning and evening. She has separation anxiety and can’t be hospitalized. Also, I don’t feel at ease leaving her in the hospital. When driving to get the injection, someone has to hold her, for fear that she might break the wound, which is extremely large, stretching from between the front legs all the way to the buttocks.
Now, it’s been one and a half months since the operation. I took her to get a haircut yesterday, and she has become a cute little one again.
Finally, a friendly reminder: For female dogs at the age of eight, it’s a high – risk period for breast diseases. For dogs that have given birth, the risk of pyometra is reduced, but the mammary glands are more likely to get sick under the stimulation of hormones. If you can feel lumps the size of rice grains or larger in the dog’s breast, you should pay attention and take it to the hospital for an examination to find out if it’s a tumor. There’s a 50% chance that it’s malignant. The same goes for cats, but for cats, there’s a more than 96% chance that it’s malignant.

What if it’s malignant? With radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the dog can generally live for one to two years. But the dog will suffer a great deal. If the condition is severe, it may not last for half a year. At that time, I thought that if it was malignant, I would give up treatment, make a wish list, take good care of her, accompany her through the last days, and finally choose euthanasia.
It took nearly a month for the dog to fully recover. When the anti – inflammatory injections stopped, I still had to go to the hospital every other day to draw out the fluid. So, I went to the hospital many times. Among the dogs I saw, there were those having sterilization operations, those bitten by insects and suffering from anemia and needing blood transfusions, those with leukemia, diabetes, pancreatitis, those having hernia surgeries, those with oral cancer, those having their eyeballs removed due to infection, and those poisoned by the pesticide seeping out from the flower pot and coming to the hospital for treatment. There are so many cases. Basically, dogs can get all kinds of diseases that humans can get.
Really, believe me, raising a dog definitely involves more than just the costs of grooming, clothes, vaccines, and leashes.
