This question can be asked to my Xiaowubai: How does a two – month – old Golden Retriever tolerate its crazy owner?
The answer is simple. Just be simple – minded, a bit “helpless”, and act cute, and he’ll be fine!
After Xiaowubai drinks water, I would shut him in the toilet and keep saying “Pee, pee, pee” in a row, even with a melody. Eventually, he couldn’t hold it anymore and peed. Then he got a piece of dog food as a reward. We both happily wiggled our butts and walked out of the toilet. After repeating this three times, it was a success!
When he barked at night, it was easy to deal with. I just wrapped myself in a quilt and slept beside his cage. His little paws would rest on my fingers that I stretched into the cage. When he woke up and saw me there, he would play with his toys for a while and then go back to sleep. Since then, he has never barked again. Even now, whenever I go to sleep, he will play on his own, without making any noise.
When it came to food – guarding, I would take some food, put it at a distance, and coax him to come and eat: “Wubai, come and eat, come on, little cutie!” In this way, little by little, I cured his food – guarding problem. Now we share food together. If he thinks seaweed is delicious, he will tear off a piece and throw it on the ground for me, and then happily jump around to eat the rest. Oh, he’s really my little cutie.
I have hit him before, because I was afraid he would eat something random and might die if it was poisonous. At other times, we always communicate in a consultative way. Ninety percent of the time, he listens. When he seems not to understand, he’s just pretending. If I act cute, he will listen.
I really had a great time during Xiaowubai’s puppyhood. Sometimes he peed and pooped randomly. After all, he’s like a little kid. When I was a child, I even played with my urine behind the door. How can we blame a little puppy?
If you think he’s annoying, he will seem annoying to you. But if you think he’s cute, then treat him in a cute way.
Of course, Xiaowubai still sees me as the master. Although I don’t hit him hard, I have a loud voice, I can run fast, and I eat a lot. Hahaha~
Here’s my advice. When raising a dog, you must understand its weaknesses and needs, and train it based on these two points. For example, when you want to “punish” the dog, just shout loudly, and give a light tap casually. Anyway, he won’t feel much pain. When training correct habits, use delicious food to tempt him, form the habit, and repeat the training to reinforce it.
There are no dogs that can’t be trained, only owners who don’t know how to train them.
