Dudu: The Joys and Challenges of Raising a Growing Golden Retriever Puppy

Dudu: The Joys and Challenges of Raising a Growing Golden Retriever Puppy

Dudu is a female puppy. She’s now five months old. Golden Retriever puppies grow incredibly fast. Compared to when she was first brought home, she’s like a completely different, much chubbier dog.

This is what she looked like on the first day she arrived home!

She’s always been good – looking!

Gradually, her little face has developed, and she looks like a pretty little girl.

Dudu is already a very well – behaved and good – natured puppy. But when she first arrived home at two months old, she would bite and pee everywhere. After a long day at work, coming home to clean up the mess she made in the house was really overwhelming. There were several times when I was so frustrated that I thought about sending her away.

Later, I gradually found the rhythm of getting along with her. Taking her out three times a day, she rarely messes up the house by pooping or peeing indoors. However, new problems keep emerging every once in a while. For example, now she’s in the teething stage, and she’s chewed all over the tables and doors at home. She also wakes me up at 6 am sharp every morning and is full of energy, jumping around the house… Even at five months old, there were still several times when I thought about sending her away.

I endured the first two months, and now I have to endure the third, fifth… Even though I love dogs so much, especially Dudu, if a novice wants to raise a dog, I’d still advise them to think it through carefully.

Once you start raising a dog, no matter if it’s windy, rainy, you’re sick, have a period, or just don’t want to get out of bed, you have to overcome all difficulties. You need to walk the dog three times a day and clean up three to five piles of feces every day, without any breaks. You’ll also encounter various unexpected problems like the dog getting sick, destroying things at home, or having conflicts with neighbors. Without patience and enough time to accompany the dog, you’ll really be on the verge of a breakdown.

But watching her grow up bit by bit, becoming cuter and more obedient. After cleaning the house and scolding her when I get home from work, although I’m exhausted, I can hug her tightly and stroke her to my heart’s content. When we finish a walk and she’s tired, she’ll lean against you and fall asleep soundly… All the hardships fade away.

This is probably the joy of raising a dog. You have to spoil your own baby, and sometimes, with a heavy heart, give her a scolding or a gentle spank.
