The Many Facets of My Golden Retriever: Intelligence, Warmth, and Quirks

The Many Facets of My Golden Retriever: Intelligence, Warmth, and Quirks

01 Intelligence

Golden retrievers are renowned for being among the top five in the global dog intelligence rankings, and they truly live up to this reputation. When I bought mine, it had just finished all its vaccinations, so it was relatively big. The next day after it came home, I started teaching it commands like “sit”, “stand”, and “shake hands”. It really learned incredibly fast. When it was a puppy, it was adorably cute.

Later, as it grew a bit older, we found that it would start barking at around seven o’clock every morning. This really annoyed us because our alarm was set for eight o’clock, and it could also disturb others. Then, my boyfriend, for some reason, came up with the idea of setting an alarm clock for the dog. Yes, you heard it right, an alarm clock for the dog. At first, we set it for seven o’clock. As soon as the alarm rang before it woke up naturally, we immediately took it out for a walk. The next day, we set the alarm for 7:10, then 7:30, and 7:50. In about a week, the dog would only bark after eight o’clock, and it would only bark if you didn’t get up to let it out after hearing the alarm. In less than 10 days, we removed the alarm clock, and it never barked early again. Many times, it would wake up and play on its own without disturbing us. Isn’t it cute?

02 Warmth

Golden retrievers are truly the “nice guys” among dogs. If you train them well, they can be as good as a boyfriend, being very clingy.

03 Gentleness

As is well – known, golden retrievers are gentle. Although they are relatively large in size, many people aren’t too afraid of them when they meet one.

04 Extremely Active Puppyhood

When golden retrievers are puppies, they can be as energetic as huskies. It’s quite common for them to “destroy the house”, but this is only before they have their first heat cycle.

Don’t be fooled by its large size. It’s only about seven months old now.

05 Heavy Menstrual Flow for Female Dogs

My dog had its first heat cycle at the end of January. I first noticed it because there was a small patch of blood where it had been sitting. Anyway, when the flow was heavy, it would drip blood as it walked. Since it was the first time wearing a diaper, it was uncomfortable and kept trying to take it off.

06 Too Gentle to Be Easily Guarded

It’s so gentle that others can easily lead it away. So you need to keep a close eye on it.

07 Excessive Salivation

Don’t touch it after it exercises for a while. Its mouth is full of saliva. If you’re eating and don’t give it any, it will drool all over the floor.
