In fact, I never thought that one day I would have a tabby cat.
After four years of studying abroad, I finally got my own apartment. My boyfriend and I spent about one or two months busily decorating our little nest. Then, one afternoon, my boyfriend was lying on the bed playing with his phone, and I was lying on his stomach reading a book. The sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting a warm, golden glow. I looked up at my boyfriend and said, “How about we get a cat?” My boyfriend looked down at me, smiled, and said yes.
We decided to adopt because there are many animal shelters in the US. Adoption is convenient, and the animals waiting to be adopted have already been neutered, vaccinated, treated for mites, and dewormed. It gives you peace of mind when you bring them home. I said I had always wanted a Siamese cat, so my boyfriend searched online for a long time. Finally, he said he found two Siamese – mixed kittens in two animal shelters in the neighboring city. Early the next morning, at around 7 o’clock, we set out. After driving for over two hours, we arrived at the first shelter. Unfortunately, we were a step too late. The four – month – old Siamese kitten had been adopted half an hour ago. Then we rushed to the second shelter in a hurry, only to be told that the three – month – old Siamese – mixed kitten there was ill and couldn’t be adopted.

I was standing in the cat room of the animal shelter, but I wasn’t as sad as I had expected. My boyfriend gently patted me on the back and said he would keep looking and definitely find me a Siamese cat. I looked up at him, about to speak, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw a small black paw. It was a six – month – old tabby kitten. It was stretching its little paw hard to reach the corner of my boyfriend’s clothes. When it saw me looking at it, it immediately rolled over, showed its belly, and meowed. I tugged at my boyfriend and said, “Look at that cat. It’s being cute.”
So, that little tabby kitten, which was trying so hard to be cute and charming, was brought home by us. We named it August to commemorate the month it was adopted. This little guy is simply the soul of our home. He loves the same food as we do. He follows us wherever we go, always ready to sit down and be petted. Most amazingly, he learned to fetch things all by himself. At first, it was a ball, and later, it was all kinds of his toys. If you throw them out, he will bring them back to you. If he can’t carry it in his mouth, he will drag it back with his little butt, doing his “job” dutifully.
Now August has grown up a lot and is getting more and more handsome.
Recently, we were worried that he would be lonely at home alone, so we found a little sister for him, a two – month – old long – haired grey kitten. We named her Miracle. August often licks Miracle’s fur and sleeps with her. He really acts like a big brother.
Love you, my two little treasures.
