Our Miss Second – chubby was given to us when we were visiting the food market (¯―¯ ).
Three years ago, my husband and I were living in an old and shabby apartment in Shanghai, struggling for our careers. Our salaries were really not worth mentioning. Although both of us loved animals very much, due to financial constraints, we could only look at cats and dogs through the glass in large pet stores in the mall. Until that National Day holiday three years ago, we were strolling in the community food market in the afternoon. Suddenly, we saw a woman asking every vegetable stall if they wanted a kitten. We were very curious. My husband immediately struck up a conversation and asked if we could take a look. The woman took out a little tabby kitten from her backpack. My husband was focused on the cat, and I was also blank – minded, just looking at the cat.
Then we heard the woman say, “This cat was born to my big cat at home. It’s very obedient and not naughty. It can eat cat food and knows how to use the litter box. Please don’t abandon it. Take good care of it. I live on a certain floor and in a certain apartment in this community. Return the cat carrier to me later.” So, we became the new owners of the kitten in a daze.

When Fatty (our affectionate nickname for her at first) first entered the house, she was so timid that she hid everywhere. But by dinner time, she was already lying on my lap, sleeping. Since my husband had always wanted a chubby cat to pet, we gave her the humble name – Second – chubby. In these three years, Miss Second – chubby has grown from a one – month – old baby into a little lady. Despite having good food and a comfortable life, she has always maintained a great figure, which makes my husband and me feel ashamed. My husband always tries his best to provide her with good food, but the little princess has a mind of her own. She eats exactly as much as she wants, not a single bite more.
She has always been gentle and obedient, and has become more talkative. Every day, except when she’s sleeping, our home resounds with her various meows. In these three years, for the sake of our lives, we moved from Shanghai to Hangzhou. During this period, there was pressure from our families saying that we couldn’t keep the cat, but we stood firm. Both my father – in – law and my mother came to live with us separately. At first, they both firmly said no to keeping the cat, but later, they didn’t dislike her at all. Instead, they praised her for being obedient and not naughty. She is our first “child”. Although she’s a furry one, she is an indispensable part of our family. Some people say that a child is the little angel in a family, but I think Miss Second – chubby, who doesn’t have high demands on the quality of life, welcomes you home every day, guards you when you go to the bathroom, and tries hard to rub against you and blink at you to show her love, is the real little angel!
