Ashui: From Fear to Affection - A Rescue Story

Ashui: From Fear to Affection – A Rescue Story

The first time I saw it was on a rainy day. I heard faint meowing coming from the long – unused swimming pool in the community.

After asking my partner to check if there was a kitten, I immediately went upstairs to get tools and fished it out. Because it was so small, the kitten couldn’t climb out on its own. It was wet and tiny, and I was afraid it would lose body heat, so I took it straight home.

Right after being rescued, it was very well – behaved. It let us dry its body without making a sound or scratching. Then we named it Ashui (because it was picked up from the pool).

After getting rid of fleas and raising it for a few days, we found out it had cat plague. I gritted my teeth and decided to treat it. Because I needed to go back to school for my thesis, I put it in the pet hospital for inpatient treatment. When it was let out for activities during hospitalization, it scratched the doctor and hissed at them.

Later, when it got better, I asked a friend to pick it up and take it home. It was still very afraid of people. Emmm, it would be so scared that it would almost jump out of its skin.

It was so scared that it jumped onto the curtain.

I even bought a monitor to keep an eye on it at home. After all, my friend could only go to the house once every two or three days to clean the litter, refill water, and feed it.

Later, after I finished my thesis, I returned home after a half – month absence. Ashui was so frightened that it hid in the sofa. It hissed at anyone it saw and hardly dared to eat.

I didn’t force it. I let it slowly adapt to the environment, trying to let it know that this was a place where it could have enough to eat and drink without worrying about survival. After a month, it stopped hissing at me, and it could even accept food from me occasionally, although it always ate in the corner. After two months, it started to dare to come out and play with the cat teaser, and began to wander around the table. Although its attitude was changing, it still didn’t completely let down its guard.

Until, I had to go back home, which was a thousand kilometers away. So I asked someone to arrange the pet transportation. I sent Ashui to the handler a day in advance, and then picked it up after the plane landed the next day.

When I went to pick up Ashui, the staff handling the transportation told me that Ashui was extremely timid. After chatting for a few words, I took it home. After arriving home, although the environment was strange, it adapted quickly.

On the way home

After arriving home

After getting home, for some unknown reason, it gradually became affectionate. It became a clingy chatterbox every day. Even if I let it play in the living room, as soon as I called its name in the room, it would come running back with its tail held high. Besides me, my family members have been in contact with it for over a month, but they still can’t even touch Ashui’s fur.

In conclusion, I think cats can understand the kindness people show them. It just takes a process for them to let down their guard. I hope everyone can get a lovely little kitten~
