My Adorable and Spirited Tabby Cat

My Adorable and Spirited Tabby Cat

Perhaps it’s the patterns on their bodies that make them look rather domineering. My cat has tiger stripes and leopard-like patterns (I’m not sure if it counts as leopard pattern, as there are circles all over its belly). Coupled with the fact that tabby cats are generally darker in color, it gives an air of depth. When its eyes are half-closed, that’s when I think it looks the most domineering. Just like in these three pictures below.

I want to be the Schwarzenegger in the cat world.

Me reading a book, with my cat joining in the fun.

I picked up my cat more than three months ago. It’s not an adult cat yet, so it still has cute expressions and movements. Especially when it sleeps on its back with its belly exposed, it’s just so adorable.

It’s also quite smart. Specifically, it recognizes its owner and has a strong adaptability. Not long ago, during the National Day holiday, I took it back to my hometown. After several hours in the car, it slept all the way in the bag, only occasionally poking its head out to look outside. When we first went out, it was a bit panicked and would meow from time to time.

When I responded to it, it would calm down. On the first day when we arrived home, it was rather frightened and stayed in the cage that my mother had prepared for it (the first picture below). On the second day, it started to get familiar with the surroundings (?), running up and down the stairs. But except for me, it wouldn’t answer anyone else who called its name, and it would only stay where it could see me. My mother is really fond of cats, but my tabby cat didn’t pay much attention to her. It wouldn’t play even when she tried to play with it, and it wouldn’t eat the small fish it usually liked. I think its refusal to eat food given by others casually is a sign of its intelligence, but this probably has nothing to do with its patterns. It might be due to its life as a stray cat before.

It looks fierce, but actually it’s just sleepy.

This photo has been edited to look really cute.

Afraid that it wouldn’t get used to it, during the National Day holiday when I was at home, I put the litter box in my room.

Speaking of its life as a stray cat, I’m actually not very popular with cats. I was afraid that if I took it home, it would run away. I hesitated for more than a week about whether to bring it home. Every day when I went to and from work, I would feed it. Just seeing it made me happy. Later, typhoons became more and more frequent. I was worried that it would get sick if it got rained on too much at such a young age, so I finally brought it home.

This is what it looked like when it was still at the subway station. It looked rather smart. Hehe. Later, construction started around the subway station, and the sewer entrance where it used to hide was sealed. Sometimes I wonder, if I hadn’t brought it home, would it have happened that one day when it was hiding in the sewer, the construction workers didn’t notice it and sealed the entrance with cement? It’s scary to think about.

On the second day after it came home, it slept on its back and started purring. But it can purr when it’s happy, nervous or afraid. At first, I wasn’t sure which it was. I couldn’t tell. On the third day, it learned to use the toilet. Gradually, its schedule also adjusted to mine, and it didn’t make any noise at night. My mother said it was probably fate. Later, it learned to follow instructions. When I told it to sit, it would sit. This time when I came home, when I called it to come over, it would walk over. I hope it can be healthy. Thank you for being willing to come home with me.

If the patterns make tabby cats look domineering, then their restlessness is probably what makes them seem smart. This one is extremely active. Every day when I come home from work, I have to play with it for at least an hour. When it was a stray at the station, it also played for a long time. When other people who had fed it played with it, it would play just as happily, and it was no problem to play for an hour or two.

Basking in the morning sun, starting a new day of play. I also have to play with it for a while every morning before I leave. ‍

It really has a lot of energy.

When it gets tired from playing, it lies down for a while. After a few minutes, it gets up and is full of energy again.

This is what my father secretly took during the National Day holiday. It seems to be very afraid of my father. As soon as my father approaches, it jumps away. From the photo, you can see how close the lens was. My father described it with four words: “broad-shouldered and thick-waisted”. shrug.

When a tabby cat shows its belly, it’s as cute as other patterned cats. Moreover, my cat has rather round eye sockets. Really, as long as its eyes aren’t half-closed, it still looks cute and innocent.

Even when it grows up (gets fat), it’s still a cutie. The patterns are a bit lighter than when it was a child, but still very nice.

Covering its belly, it’s still a handsome young cat.

Big eyes.

Even when it’s an adult, it’s still very lively. I have to play with it every day, otherwise it will be unhappy and whine.

Its big belly completely covers its hind legs.
