My Smart Cat, Mimi

My Smart Cat, Mimi

Mimi (a universal name). When I was learning traditional Chinese painting in primary school, the first painting I drew was of my Mimi.

When we first brought it home, it was so nervous that it rushed and crashed into the glass door. Hahaha. At that time, I was a bit worried about its head because the sound of the impact was really loud.

Later, it turned out that I was overthinking. We only showed it once where to eat, drink and use the toilet, and it remembered them all. I guess most cats can do this. Let me share some interesting things:

In winter, when Dad came back late at night, his down jacket was placed beside the bed. Mimi would crawl into the down jacket by itself. Here’s the interesting part. It neatly draped the sleeves of the down jacket over itself to make a quilt. Isn’t it smart? But once, probably because it was sleeping too comfortably, it went to the toilet in its sleep. Dad was really angry in the morning. Anyway, in winter, Dad’s down jacket became Mimi’s quilt.

My Mimi would go out for a stroll every day. I had no idea what it was doing out there for so long. One time, it came back looking listless. At first, I didn’t notice. Later, Mimi started vomiting and having diarrhea, and foaming at the mouth. My family was so scared and didn’t know what was wrong. We thought it was surely going to die. But in the end, it miraculously recovered (it turns out that cats really do have nine lives). After that, it still went out every day as usual, but every time it came back, it would bring back a dead mouse and put it at the door. Only then did we realize that it had fallen ill before because it ate a mouse that had been poisoned. Mimi never ate mice again. It just caught them and showed off its hunting results to us. Isn’t it smart?

We used to have a big fish tank, half a meter tall, with lots of tropical fish in it. When Mimi walked past with its catwalk, it never even glanced at it. After a few months, my parents thought that there seemed to be a few fewer fish in it, but they didn’t think much of it. One day, the whole family went out. Not long after we walked out, we realized we had forgotten something. I quickly ran back home. When I rushed through the door, I saw Mimi standing with its legs apart on top of the fish tank, its head just lifting out of the tank, and its little paws still in the water. The moment it saw me, Mimi flinched its legs and almost fell into the tank. Isn’t it smart? It knew how to act one way in front of people and another way behind their backs.
