The Troublesome Traits of My Dragon Li Cat Compared to Other Breeds

British Shorthairs are a breed that requires relatively little effort to take care of. American Shorthairs come next. But the Dragon Li cat I raised has brought me the most troubles.

Cunning and resourceful

This is something I don’t quite like. My mom always communicates with it with great caution because “its eyes have an expression as if it knows everything.” The one in my family even uses its little tricks to compete with me in wits. Actually, I prefer cats that are more innocent and naive, like little children. This varies from person to person. There are indeed people who like a cat with a scheming mind.

For example, when I play with another kitten, instead of coming over to seek attention, it would think for a while, then walk to a short distance away, pretend to have found some interesting prey, and pounce and kick at the air. This directly attracts that naive kitten over. I can understand seeking attention, but this kind of human – like thinking at this level makes me a bit annoyed. It’s like raising a monkey, with means and ideas.

I don’t allow it to play on the windowsill outside the screen window for fear that this rascal might fall to its death. As a result, after it opened the screen window, before going to play on the windowsill, it closed the window behind it! So I only knew that a cat was missing, without realizing its rule – breaking behavior at all.

Strong sense of revenge

If you do something it doesn’t like, it will definitely pee on your favorite item. It usually never urinates randomly.

Independent

Even if it tries so hard to seek attention, it doesn’t allow random petting. You must pet it in a way that it deems respectful. After reading several answers, it seems that Dragon Li cats are just the type that are not proactive and have a strong sense of self – esteem.

My cat is extremely vocal

It meows whenever it has a need. Sometimes its needs are completely unfulfillable. For example, it wants all the doors in the house to be opened at night, and no door can be closed. Or it wants me to accompany it when I turn on the light or play with my phone at night. Another example is that when I’m in the middle of having a meal, it wants me to go and watch it poop and then clean the litter box immediately. It seems to be quite intelligent, but also has a strong sense of control.

In conclusion, it might be happier as the leader of stray cats. I feel like I’ve deprived it of its nature and freedom, and I don’t get much pleasure from it either. I picked this guy up when it was a kitten. If I hadn’t, with its intelligence, it should be the king of cats in the area.
