I have a Dragon Li cat at home. She is a lovely girl, about a little over one year old now.
The previous foster family was a friend who originally wanted to keep a cat. Perhaps they thought this cat was too hard to handle, so they wanted to find another adopter.
The first time I went to pick her up, she was only about three months old. She was full of energy and wild. She was running around the house like crazy, and it was impossible to catch her. After finally catching her, she would scratch people with her claws. Even now, every time I cut her nails, she keeps grumbling and trying to escape. Cutting her nails is truly like a battle.
Cutting her nails is one of the things that gives me the most headaches. Another one is getting her to drink water. Her dislike for drinking water is really frustrating. She doesn’t like flowing water, nor does she like water in a bowl. So I simply put out several bowls to remind her all the time. She doesn’t gain weight and remains lean. When stroking her, I don’t get the feeling of soft plumpness. And I can’t even tempt her with snacks. When she’s angry, she stays angry.

Don’t even mention bathing her. With her temper, giving her a bath would immediately leave the person all scratched up. So I’ve always been afraid to send her to a pet store for a bath. I’ve only tried using dry shampoo on her once, but she reacted so strongly that she almost went wild. Later, I let her groom herself by licking, and I just keep the home environment clean.
She has a strong sense of curiosity. She has to smell and check everything. Once she makes sure it’s safe, she’ll start scratching and biting. She loves climbing into the wardrobe, and she’s already scratched a few of my clothes. But they’re just small holes, and being thrifty, I can still wear them. She was once extremely enthusiastic about scratching the curtains and the sofa, and the scratch marks are clearly visible. She has to check every nook and cranny, and once she does, she’ll try to squeeze in. There’s no stopping her.
She’s timid and sensitive. It took me a long time to let her get to know me and drop her guard against me. There was a period when she was unhappy, and it took me several weeks to cheer her up. But if you want to have a cat that will roll over for a stroke, I suggest not getting a Dragon Li cat. The one in my home isn’t so easy to pet. Even I can only enjoy a moment of sweetness. Let alone strangers. As soon as she hears a stranger’s voice, she quickly hides. She’s a typical bully – at – home type.
She doesn’t wake me up in the morning, but she will come to me and act cute, asking me to stroke her head as soon as I wake up, which makes me eager to put my retirement plan on the agenda as soon as possible.
She’s growing more and more like a little tiger. Hahaha.
