My tabby cat is an only child, 2009-2023. His mother gave birth to only him. After he came to my house, mice in open spaces were basically gone, but there were still mice in closed spaces. My childhood fun was to take him to catch mice. I would open the drawer or lift the lid of the granary, and he would cooperate with me and rush in to catch mice. Because I often played this when I was a child, every time I went home during the holidays, as long as I planned to open the drawer or cabinet, he would cooperate very much and wait for me to open it and rush in immediately. There were mice in several neighboring households in the yard. I took him over and locked him up for two days, walked around, and patrolled, and the situation would be better.

He is particularly good at “playing with others”. When I was in elementary school, I often teased him on the sofa. Sometimes I would put a pocket in front of him and scratch the tail of the pocket from the outside with my hand, making a hissing sound. He would cooperate and become alert, crawling with eyes wide open, shaking his tail slightly, and then suddenly pounce into the bag; sometimes I would chase him, and he would hide in the hole behind the sofa and lurk. I would use my hand to probe the hole, and he would suddenly reach out to grab my hand, but would not stretch out his claws, so he would not scratch anyone.

He has kept these habits. When he is old and I go home during the holidays from college, he will still cooperate with me tirelessly (as shown in the video). When I, my father, and my grandmother sit on the sofa, no matter who sees him sleeping on the sofa, they will not be able to control themselves and hug him and start to play. Every time he scratches his neck, he enjoys it very much.

He also knows how to “report work”. Every time he catches a mouse, he will show it to others. If there is no one outside, he will drag the mouse to the living room. When we see him dragging the mouse in, we laugh and get angry. Once he caught a snake and came to my grandmother’s door, thinking he had done something great, but ended up getting beaten by my grandmother. He would also stand on the edge of the field to catch fish in the field. Once he caught a great egret and brought it home, and another time he caught a magpie on the roof.

Everyone in my family likes him and treats him as a family member, not just a pet. I think many pets are born to accompany people, without much freedom and dignity, and cannot go where they want to go. It’s a bit pitiful, but he is free and has dignity. He is not bound and does not please humans, but performs his duties very well, and is respected and loved by humans. Every time he is hungry, he comes home and meows a few times, and we will cook for him.

In fact, it is also very simple, just roast the dried pig intestines with fire, grind them into powder, and mix them with rice. He also lives a very chic life, sleeping soundly when he should sleep (as shown in the picture), and spends two weeks every year during the estrus season, crossing mountains and ridges to find little female cats (later he was castrated and couldn’t do that).
