Today, I am in a good mood to tell you the story of this kitten. I joined the project as a junior financial officer in 2021. The cat joined earlier than me, so she can be considered my predecessor. However, the exact time of joining the company is no longer available due to the high-intensity turnover of project personnel (this is the case on construction sites). Our project has been running for four years, and it is said that the cat has nursed several litters of cubs, so I estimate that the cat is at least four or five years old.
The first time I saw it was in the cafeteria. It would beg for food in the cafeteria on time every day. It was not very efficient. It had to howl for an hour before the cafeteria aunt brought some minced meat. But there was nothing I could do. After all, snakes and rats were too unstable as a source of protein. One day it came to me for begging. Unlike the cats I saw in college, the cats in our college would sit quietly by the side and watch us eat until we gave them some.
This Huang Lihua was different. She was very enthusiastic and had a unique voice. When she faced the cafeteria door, she would cry “Ao Ao Ao”. “, which is very unpleasant to hear, but when it gets to a specific person, it turns into a pleading “meow meow meow”, not a clip sound, but a real pleading sound. In addition to calling, she will rub people very hard, and after rubbing for a while, she will look at people with very sad eyes and make a gentle and sad “meow~meow~meow~”. I grew up in the city, and at most I have raised birds and turtles. This is the first time I have seen a toy with such strong interactivity, and I was taken advantage of like a young boy who met a mature woman. The first meal I fed her was half a chicken leg, and she finished it in whirlwind.
I didn’t think about establishing a long-term relationship with her at the beginning. At that time, I just thought she was cute, so I fed her a little, then touched her and walked away. As a result, she appeared directly at the door of my dormitory the next day… I was stunned for a moment when I opened the door. She looked at me with big eyes, and then gave a gentle “meow~”.
Usually we each have our own work. I have only one day off a day, but she has no day off. She usually can’t find me before the appointed time, and I can’t find her either. She would knock on the door at 7:05 in the morning and 8:00 in the evening, but sometimes I have to work overtime and I am not in the dormitory at 8:00. One day, I heard a “meow~meow~meow~” coming from far away. Sure enough, she sneaked into my office to urge me to get off work. I was very angry at that time, because our leader doesn’t like small animals to run into the office area. It would be terrible if she offended someone she shouldn’t one day. I jumped up and stomped my feet to scare her, and she turned around and ran away, but it was no use. Later, she would come to me from time to time. What’s worse is that the sister in the same office also has a blue cat. A few days after she came, the blue cat also knew the way to the office and would come to visit me from time to time. Finally one day, she came to the office to find me again, but I was not there. The cat who lost its target began to turn up the volume of “meow~meow~meow~”, and then looked for me in each office. Later, she strolled to the conference room. At that time, the project leadership team was holding a video conference…
So, the leader ordered the security guards to take immediate action to deal with the stray animals in the project department. The General Office called me to ask how to deal with them. At this time, she and the two cubs had been put into a sack, and they kept “meowing~meow~” from time to time. I immediately realized my powerlessness. There were three people living in the board house, and I couldn’t selfishly stuff a few cats in. My parents didn’t want to raise small animals since I was a child. I couldn’t stay in the project anymore, and the only option was to put her to death except to release her into the woods. I was very sad, but had no choice. I could only transport her to a large forest three or five kilometers away with the project security guards and release her. When she was poured out of the bag, she and the two cubs disappeared in a flash.
I originally thought that the matter was over. She was so capable that she must be able to live well in the wild. But it was typhoon season in Guangzhou at that time. After I lost the cat, it started to rain heavily and it was windy. Unexpectedly, three days later, I heard the familiar “meow~meow~meow~”. The security guard and I walked for several hours that day. Maomao took her two half-grown cubs in the heavy rain for three days, climbed out of the mountains and forests, crossed two busy main roads and walked back to the door of my dormitory…
I told my parents about this and begged them for help again. Then Maomao and her family successfully lived on my balcony. Why the balcony? Because they were used to the life of the project department. They are alive and tried to get out of the house, but they all tried their best to get out. Alas… our house is on the second floor anyway, so they can play if they want, but if they go out to have fun, they should not come into the room. So their daily routine is to come back at mealtime and “meow~meow~”, and “whoosh~” in the cardboard box at night, and go out to have fun during the day. I am thinking of sterilizing them after a while, and they will be quieter.
