My golden retriever Yuanbao
My golden retriever is nine months old, a boy named Yuanbao.
After I brought him home at two and a half months old, I started to talk to him. At first, he was confused and didn’t quite understand what I said. Now when I talk to him, he will raise his head and listen to me seriously, and understand what I mean.
For example, if I can’t stand him, he will run to the room next to me and jump on the bed, but he actually knows very well that I don’t allow him to go to bed, so once I find him on the bed, before I can say anything, he will run to me at the speed of light, sit on the floor, motionless, and listen to me scolding him seriously, trying to ask for my forgiveness with his big eyes, although he always uses this trick, but I still fall for it. After getting my forgiveness, he will follow me obediently, wherever I go, he will follow.
Sometimes I don’t want to pay attention to him, so I lie on the bed and play with my phone. He will lie on the floor and chew bones. When I feel bored, I will get out of bed and touch him. When he feels bored, he will come to my bed, hold my hand, or put his head on the bed, or rest his head on my pillow, signaling me to play with him.

This is one of his favorite things to do – lying by the window and looking out. I don’t know what he is looking at, and he barks outside from time to time. Isn’t it said that dogs don’t have very good eyesight?
I was playing ball with him outside, and the ball fell off the bridge. There was some water under the bridge, and the water was quite dirty. I told him to stay on it while I went to pick up the ball and told him not to move. He really understood and stood on it waiting for me to come back. Passers-by praised him for being smart and sensible and understanding.
These days I found that he started to protect me. It was probably because my ex and I had a quarrel a while ago, and he pressed me hard on the bed, making me unable to move. I was a little scared, afraid that he would do something extreme, so I desperately called Yuanbao to save me. My dog probably understood my call for help and kept barking at my ex, and made threatening sounds from time to time. My ex was also worried about being hurt, so he let me go. My dog stood beside me and kept staring at him. That look was as if he was willing to risk everything just to prevent me from getting hurt. Since then, when we go out, whenever a big dog comes to pounce on me, whether he knows it or not, he will stand in front of me and make a low growl in his throat. Even if his good friends come to pounce on me, he will go up and hug them and threaten them to leave. But if they come quietly, he will stand beside me, make sure I won’t be hurt, and then leave to play on his own.
