I just started raising a golden retriever at the end of July this year. I hope writing down my experience can help you.
There are too many advantages of golden retrievers, and I am tired of being praised by people. I will talk about some minor disadvantages.
Disadvantage 1: Too enthusiastic towards people. If you have not trained the dog, anyone can take it away.
Case 1: My dog wants to rush over when he sees a stranger passing by or walking towards him.
Case 2: One day when I was walking the dog, a golden retriever came to play with me and my dog. There was no owner around. He followed us all the way and walked with us for half an hour. I had no choice but to go back to the place where I saw it and wait for its owner to find the dog.
Case 3: The golden retriever of a dog friend is also too enthusiastic towards people. When he was one year old, he twisted excitedly when he saw people and had urinary incontinence.

However, every dog has a different personality, and not every dog will be like this, but basically every dog has more or less some small disadvantages. If you plan to buy a golden retriever, adapt to it in advance, otherwise it may not meet your psychological expectations and cause disappointment.
Disadvantage 2: A lot of drooling.
Situation 1: When I play with a dog or someone comes to touch a dog, there will be a lot of saliva marks on other people’s pants or other dogs’ hair. I now wipe the saliva before letting it pass.
Situation 2: When I see you eating or waiting for food, your saliva drips onto the floor and the hair on your chest. Every time I finish eating, I have to wipe the floor and wipe the hair on its chest. Situation 3
: When I come back from going out in the summer, the hair on its chest will be wet.
Disadvantage 3: It is easy to get dirty.
Compared with short-haired dogs, the paws and abdomen connecting the thighs will be very dirty after a golden retriever goes out. There will be some dust and other things. Every time I go home, I have to comb and wipe the hair.
Every time I go home, I have to wash the dog’s feet. The hair on the feet must be trimmed regularly. It will grow long soon after trimming. The small sand particles are in the hair on the soles of the feet and it is difficult to wash. It is much easier to wash after trimming.
Disadvantage 4: Easy to get skin diseases
Case 1: If you don’t dry it completely after taking a bath, it is very likely to get eczema. It usually takes me about 2 hours to take a bath and blow dry its hair, about 20-30 minutes for a bath and about 1.5 hours for a blow dry. Its hair is not particularly long at present, and it is eight months old.
Case 2: I think the skin disease of golden retrievers has a lot to do with the region and weather humidity. I am in Guangdong, where the air humidity is high. The humidity in summer causes skin diseases. I bought a dehumidifier later and it is now healed, but there are still some skin problems at the elbow.
