My dog

My dog

We used to have a dog. I remember I got it from a neighbor when I was in kindergarten. It was a plain local dog, but its color was pretty. The pure black color was as smooth and shiny as satin. It was strange that we all loved it very much at that time, unlike now when we don’t take dogs seriously. When we first brought it home, it couldn’t eat steamed buns and vegetables, so my brother and I used a small bottle to feed it milk. Every time we fed it, we would call its name first, and then it would hold the bottle with its two small front paws and stand there sucking hard. It was not until many years later that I realized that it was called the strength to drink milk! The dog seemed to become smarter after being fed many times. Every time its name was called, it would run over to you lively, and then shake its short tail desperately, holding its head high and looking at you with pitiful eyes. At that time, I thought our puppy was so smart. Later, I learned in the biology class in junior high school that the phenomenon was called conditioned reflex…

When our dog was young, it should have been one of the “dogs who know the times are handsome dogs”. After all, it is normal for dogs to take a walk or have a fight when they go out. It is inevitable that they will suffer losses. In this respect, our dog is smart enough and knows the times – if he can beat the opponent, he will fight. If he can’t beat the opponent, he will call for help. If he can’t get help, he will run away! So I have always been at ease with our dog walking by himself. It’s just a boat that may capsize in the gutter. After all, you have to pay for what you have done! Our dog has been ambushed by other dogs. Our dog went out early in the morning that day, and when he came back, his fur was bitten in clumps, and he was drooling all over. It was obvious that he had just had a bloody fight. In the past, our dog came back in this state, although embarrassed, but with an extremely exaggerated expression of pride on his face. Today, as soon as he entered the yard, he went straight to his nest without even saying hello. Alas… seeing his angry and timid expression, I didn’t dare to ask what was going on…

“He who knows the times is a handsome dog” is absolutely right about our dog, there is no doubt that he “knows the times”. In the past, we raised pigs at home. My parents were always working in the fields during the day, so the pigs were very active at home. Every day, they jumped out of the pen to eat the vegetables planted in our yard. Our dog was lazy and didn’t care about it. But every time my family came back, our dog was very active. He chased the pigs and chased them back to the pen in a few seconds. After the job was done, he felt that he had done a great job and wagged his tail at you. Regarding “Junjie”, I want to talk about the romance of our dog. I don’t know how many romances there are, and I don’t have the time to watch him fall in love every day. In the world of dogs, their concept of love is very simple – love, just be together! When two dogs fall in love, they will get married immediately, no matter who’s doorstep, which street, or wheat field, let alone houses, cars, money, etc., there is no such thing. The reason why I say our dog is handsome is that I once saw our dog and another dog fighting for a female dog at the same time, and the female dog finally gave in to our dog, which made me feel that it was so natural. Since then, I firmly believe that our dog is a handsome dog, at least in the eyes of dogs, although they only see black and white!

When a dog gets old, it will not foolishly chase its tail and bite it for a long time, nor will it chase animals smaller than itself to play, nor will it follow you and wag its tail to act pitiful. It has also lost the enthusiasm of its youth and has lost interest in everything. It only likes to hide in the shade in the summer and sleep with its tongue hanging out, and then move out of the shade in the winter to bask in the sun, and occasionally scratch itself with its no longer vigorous hind legs! Let those kittens and puppies play around on it. When our dog got old, one of its teeth fell out, its ears became deaf, its eyes were cloudy and it always looked sad, its fur turned dark yellow, and it was too messy to comb. Did it understand the saying “It’s just an empty shell”?

Our dog died when I was in my third year of high school, or to be more precise, when I took the college entrance examination in 2006. That year was the Year of the Dog, and our dog was born in the Year of the Pig. Twelve years, a cycle, what will it be in the next life?…

Name: Heizi, male, born in 1994, died in the summer of 2006, mischievous and loyal all his life…
